THE AR program is used to supplement the reading instruction already taking place in our classrooms. Our goals are that the Accelerated Reader program will:

MATCH students with books at the appropriate reading level.

MOTIVATE students to read more books independently.

Be MAINTAINED as a tool for teachers to assess student reading rate, comprehension, and progress as prescribed by ILLINOIS STATE GOALS AND STANDARDS.

Here is how it works:

Students choose a book at their level established by a STAR test given at the beginning of each school year. They will read the book and take a short AR computer quiz. They will earn points for passing quizzes.

We have four incentive “clubs” for students to move through during the school year. Our aeronautical theme is “Soar with AR” and we have given our clubs cloud names as we fly through the year and earn our “pilot’s” certificate.
