Things to do this summer:
·
Research careers you may be interested in
(check out some sites on “Helpful Links”).
·
Talk to local people that are in a career you’re
interested in. See if you can spend a
day with them to see what the job is really like.
·
Research schools you may be interested in. Check out their websites, e-mail for
information, etc.
·
Set up an account on www.fastweb.com to start searching for
scholarships.
·
Keep a running list of your school and
community activities—it will save you time in the long run from having to stop
and think about it every time you need it.
(Many scholarships, school applications, and even job applications ask
for some of this.)
·
Volunteer…it will give you personal
satisfaction as well as look good on your high school “resume.” You can find volunteer opportunities at
McDonough District Hospital, libraries, churches, Big Brother/Sister Program,
etc. You can even help an elderly
neighbor.
·
Read, read, read…Read what you like, but read…the
more you read, the better you’ll get at your vocabulary, your comprehension,
and your speed, which will help you when taking tests and doing homework.
