SUMMER NEWS

Graduates:  Final transcripts were sent out by the end of May.  If you were a dual credit student, and would like college credit for the class you took, it is your responsibility to request your transcript from Carl Sandburg College, and have it sent to your desired school.  To request your transcript, you can go on-line at www.sandburg.edu, go to the drop-down menu of quick links, and click on transcripts; then follow the directions.

Dual Credit Students:  Next year’s dual credit students should be sure to order books for your classes by the last week of July or first week of August.  You can go to CSC’s website (see above paragraph), and click on the “bookstore” link under the quick links pull-down menu.  (If you turned in a book order form to the guidance office, it was sent in and taken care of.)  Make arrangements to pick up your books at the Bushnell or Carthage campus, whichever is more convenient for you.

Things to do this summer:

·        Research careers you may be interested in (check out some sites on “Helpful Links”).

·        Talk to local people that are in a career you’re interested in.  See if you can spend a day with them to see what the job is really like.

·        Research schools you may be interested in.  Check out their websites, e-mail for information, etc.

·        Set up an account on www.fastweb.com to start searching for scholarships.

·        Keep a running list of your school and community activities—it will save you time in the long run from having to stop and think about it every time you need it.  (Many scholarships, school applications, and even job applications ask for some of this.)

·        Volunteer…it will give you personal satisfaction as well as look good on your high school “resume.”  You can find volunteer opportunities at McDonough District Hospital, libraries, churches, Big Brother/Sister Program, etc.  You can even help an elderly neighbor.

·        Read, read, read…Read what you like, but read…the more you read, the better you’ll get at your vocabulary, your comprehension, and your speed, which will help you when taking tests and doing homework.

·        HAVE FUN!
