Welcome to Mrs.Little’s First Grade
Here it is March already!!!! The year has been passing by
soooooo quickly. Your first graders have been working so hard. Everyone has
been learning at their own pace. My
goal is to ensure that every child receives the best education possible. Each
child has their own potential and learning style.

Reading Comprehension
Math-We have just finished a chapter in Money. I have been using an approach that I have learned called Touch Math. It has proven to be so effective and easy to learn the value of coins. The boys and girls seemed to enjoy it.
We are practicing related addition and subtraction facts. Please continue to practice addition and subtraction facts at home with your child. Fifteen minutes each night makes all of the difference.
Science-We have just finished taking a test on the human body. They were to name specific parts of the body and each function. We made skeletons with organs placed in their appropriate places. What fun we had with that! Our learning Standards require us to teach certain concepts. I decided with the year flying by so quickly, I needed to at least introduce physical science. We are discussing and will be doing experiments with matter.
Social Studies-We have been studying Celebrations. Celebrations in our country, as well as, other countries. The Chinese celebrate their New Year in January and February. We made masks and dragon flyers and pretended we were in their parade.
Take Home Reading-This has been a hit and miss endeavor and I do plan on doing better. To make excuses I guess, not enough hours in the day to get everything done!
Please continue to encourage reading at home each and every night.
Reading Counts-We are attempting to squeeze it in as much as possible, too!
Thank you for your continued support. We need you and most of all, your child needs your help.
